Yes, Michigan!

Wednesday and Thursday were tiring for us. We came into Chicago Thursday morning at about 5:00am on the red-eye and spent about 2 hours hanging out with Gina’s sisters on the North side. We were too out of it to take any pictures unfortunately :( . It was about 6 to 8 am, so no one was feeling that photogenic anyway. But it was great to see Mere and Dani, meet Mere’s new man, and see critters. Plus, they are the first aunts to see the bump! From there it was off to Hinsdale to have breakfast with Gina’s dad. Driving in Chicago traffic after being up traveling for 30 hours was wearing on me; I was getting onery. But soon we were sitting at a little greasy-spoon in Hinsdale having eggs and toast and chatting with Ralph. It was great to have the baby meet grandparent number 2! Ralph looked ecstatic to see his glowing pregnant daughter. After breakfast we said our goodbyes and made the 3 hour drive up to Michigan. Took a few cups of coffee to keep me from passing out on the turnpike, but we made it.
We took it easy that evening, and turned in early. Yesterday Tony and Johanna and Liza made there way here. We drank beers, went for a spin in the boat, and barbequed.

Despite the crappy weather, it feels like Memorial Day weekend!
Today is the big party to celebrate our somewhat recent Phd and marriages, impending baby, and Dad’s 60th bday. Should be a rager. Pics from the last day of Mom’s visit our up now, and I loaded some pics of us hanging out on the boat yesterday also. Check em’ out.

Came and Went

Mom left yesterday morning. We spent Monday shopping for some maternity clothes for Gina and then got some new patio furniture for the summer. We spent the evening just hanging out in Mom’s room at the Riverplace watching the dragon boats and basketball. It was sad to say goodbye yesterday; it’s times like this that make the distance between here and Chicago seem greater. Didn’t have much time to dwell on it, yesterday was back to the grind: work and school for me and work for Gina. Tonight we’re flying to Chicago on the red-eye to spend the weekend with Dad, Jean, Liza, Jo, and Tony up in Michigan. I’ve got some great pictures from Monday and I’ll put them up when I have a chance. That’s it for now!

Pug Love

Whoa. Mom/Gommy arrived yesterday, and it’s been off the chain since her arrival. She got in at 1-ish. We went to the house and she got to see Bea for the first time. Nice and clean, as Bea had just been groomed that morning.

From there it was off to Poppi’s to visit Gina. Mom’s first time at the shop; she didn’t buy anything, but Gina showed her the goods.

Mom and I then left Gina and headed over to the Pearl to grab lunch and beers at Bridgeport, and watch the Preakness. Then we checked Mom into her usual home-away-from-home here in PDX. After that, it was back to the house to pick up Bea and Gina and head to the Malia’s for a BBQ. There were a bunch of BHS alums, and some of our favorite PDXers in attendance. We should have stayed and longer, but we split after an hour or so to have dinner at a place Mom wanted to try. It was ok, but in hindsight we should have stayed at the Malia’s. That was the end of our evening; we dropped Mom off and head home for some well-needed rest.
This morning we woke up, and went out for brunch at Simpatica.

This place is ridiculous! So incredibly good, I couldn’t do it justice with words. We had eggs benne, a chicken-fried steak with eggs, and a salmon hash that was unreal. It was perfect fuel for our mission du jour: PUG CRAWL 2007! We were on a tight time schedule because of the wait at Simpatica, but we were determined. We went to Fred Meyer’s, Broadway Pets, and Michael’s crafts, and put together an awesome costume for Bea, and made it to the Pug Crawl right at kick-off at 1. Now, the Pug Crawl is a gathering of PDX pugs, to benefit the Oregon Humane Society, sponsored and located at Portland Brewing. This combination provides for an awesome time. Bea didn’t win the costume contest; a pug dressed as a crab did. One dressed as a VW van got second. But Bea was defitnitely one of the top 5 costumes, and she was a big big hit. She got a little nervous on the “runway” and she was pretty tired, but overall she was a rockstar. It was a blast!
After that we headed to the Lucky Lab for some more beer and food. Then we made our way up Hawthorne for shopping at Powell’s and Pastaworks.

Currently we’re resting up for dinner. I’d write more, but I need to rest myself. Check out all the pictures, there are a bunch from the Pug Crawl!

Gommy’s Coming

So, despite what most of us thought or were hoping for, it is a girl. We were a little surprised, and it was a bit of an emotional experience, but we’re really happy. It’s difficult to describe the feeling of seeing the baby on the ultrasound and learning that she’s going to be our little daughter. The heartbeat is normal, none of the problems that can be detected at this point are visible, the brain, stomach and heart are all healthy looking, she has the right number of fingers and toes, no cleft lip, and a bunch of other good things. I can’t imagine how much this little creature is going to own my heart, but it’s an amazing thing to think about. Gina has gained 11 pounds and is perfectly healthy herself, so things are going great! Sarah B. is coming out this weekend so baby will get to hear one of her grandparents for the first time. I’m pretty set on referring to Mom as Gommy around the kid, which is what I call my mom’s mom. Mom isn’t sure about that yet.
Anyway, we’ll probably take advantage of Mom’s visit and pick up some cool baby furniture or maternity clothes, or whatever other tidbits we can. Regardless of the shopping, Sarah will undoubtedly feed Gina well, and of course baby will reap the benefits of that. We’ll take lots of pics and put them up here next week. Thanks to everyone for the messages and emails last night and this morning!

Hope everyone had an awesome Mother’s Day. Not much here, but our first legit Mother’s Day… almost at least. I posted some pictures from yesterday up. Check ‘em out here.
